July Goals Recap 2022

Hellooooooo everyone, I hope your summers are going well! This month went by much too quickly, and somehow the evenings and weekends I have off from work seemed like both a luxurious amount of freetime and nowhere near enough to accomplish all the things I wanted to do this summer. August will be hectic with moving home from KY, then back to school to start fall semester of my senior year, so I hoped to get everything done this past month. And I did a lot, but it still never feels like enough haha. Anyhow, let’s get into it, shall we?

WON BY 3 POINTS – 7/8 GOALS

Catch up on Tumblr drafts: I love the writeblr community so I volunteer to participate in weekly events like Tunes-Tuesday and tag games of all stripes, but I am notoriously inconsistent about actually being online so I have a system. Most things get liked and go into my queue which runs 24/7, and whenever I notice a mention come up in my notifications, I save that post to my drafts, so it’s archived and ready for me when I’m ready to answer it. Unfortunately this sometimes means I accumulate over 250 unanswered games over a couple of months and occasionally need to do a purge. If you were privy to the spam last week as I went through these, sorry not sorry.

Record Edge of Infinity: Every quarter, I send a new experimental piece of short-fiction to my mailing list, and in June, that was a script showing a conversation between Aella, a war-criminal being kept in an high security at the border of the universe, and Merari, a young officer with a bone to pick. I enlisted the help of one of my acting friends to help me produce this story, which I’ll be editing into a proper audio-drama and sharing in the September newsletter. If you’re not subscribed to this yet but you want in before the next one comes out, you can sign up here (it’s free and I only email you 4 times a year). You can even get copies of the story backlogs to catch up on the ones you missed.

Rough up outline for the Laoche Chronicles: Ok Technically Yes, I have a rough outline, as in I know what points need to be hit at which points in the series. Do I have any idea of the details in the middle parts? Absolutely not. But did I scrap the entire plot and prep work of 8 years to start basically from scratch and turn a wall of sticky notes into a spreadsheet. Hell yeah, that counts as a win.

Blog and IG scheduling: yep I’m still here

Catch up on Goodreads reading goal: Yes if you count fanfiction and dnd podcasts! I’m technically 1 behind but I think 24 hours of Rolling with Difficulty and 122K of Moth Song should count for something.

Make pirate shirt: Next week’s post will detail the process of creating this garment! I know this is an aside from my usual writing content, but I wanted to share some insights about the creative process as a whole and keeping balance with other aspects of your life, so stay tuned for that.

Edit first half of Runaways: This has been on the list since the beginning of summer, and it really ought to be done by now, but I’m hitting a pretty significant motivational block. Maybe it’s because I finally have the free time, resources, and space to work on other projects, so the last thing my brain wants to do is stare at a screen and edit. Maybe it’s because I’ve been sick on and off for the past couple months with bronchitis and various head-colds, meaning I’ve been in an excellent state to mindlessly hand-stitch for hours on end, and a terrible state to do actual hard work and thinking. Maybe I spent so much time messing around with Laoche that I just ran out of time for this. I’m hoping I can pull my act together in August to get it done before school starts. Maybe I just need some deadline induced panic. Who knows?

Read TSS and write/post ARC review: If you missed that past couple weeks, be sure to go check out my full review and interview with R.K. Ashwick! Reviews are also up on goodreads, amazon, bookbub, and barnes and nobles. If you’ve read an indie book recently and haven’t left a review, you should go do that! Reviews are one of the best ways to help get us free promotion.

Thanks for reading! What are you working on this month? I want this blog to be more than me shouting into the void. If I can use this platform to help boost other creators, I’d love to see your work too. If you want to have your recommendations and/or your own writing featured in a Resource Rec post, or if you want to collaborate with me, you can leave a comment below for both, or contact me on either tumblr or IG! If you feel so generously inclined, you can support my writing by leaving me a tip on my Kofi or donating using the secure box below. Until next time, thanks for reading and happy writing!
