“The Edge of Infinity”

Is the expansion of our universe not a lofty enough calling for you? I stitch together spacetime at the edge of infinity and pry open the rifts in reality with the bloody edge of imagination itself. I pair particles into atoms and expand existence through eons of exhausting, exacting labor.

This quarter’s story is our 2nd entry into “The Real World Sequence” – a series of short experimental science fiction works about cosmic entities and human nature. One day in the distant future, I plan to collect these into an organized anthology, but until then, members of the mailing list get the first chance to read them and give me feedback on the stories! This series debuted with “Matter”, the story from September 2021. I realized halfway through writing this story that it worked better as a script. With a limited setting and two combative characters, I found it difficult to write meaningful descriptions into the narrative, and had much more fun with the quick back-and-forth dialogue. This is the first script I’ve ever tried, so I hope it works alright! But this publication won’t be the end of this script~ I’ve enlisted one of my friends who’s an honest-to-goodness actress to help me produce it. I hope I’ll be able to figure out audio editing, so that in the next newsletter, I’ll be able to share the fully finished podcast-style live-reading with you all. Stay tuned for that!
